Day 23

Today’s Miles: 30.76
Total Trip Miles: 643.27

I’m bad at picking towns to stop in. Again, today, I had to stop a little early because this town had a place for me to set up a tent and the original town did not. Maybe as the trip goes on I’ll get a little better at picking towns. I was looking forward to a 37-38 mile day but I’m still happy with a just shy of 31 day.

For anyone wondering, no, South Carolina is not any cooler at the moment than Georgia was. It is still mid 90s with no shade. This weekend is suppose to be record breaking temperatures that could reach 108°+.

I had to run across a “river” that literally crosses a road today. It was about a foot to a foot and a half deep and 15-20 feet wide. It looked natural like it is always there, because there was absolutely no rain to cause it.

I had another dog run with me for about 8 miles today. I always end up worrying about them finding their way back home. I stop and will try and get them to stay at their houses for a good 20-30 minutes. Sometimes it just doesn’t work and they come along no matter what. Luckily this time after 8 miles a lady at a house, who was a dog foster, said she would find the house again and I have her the best directions that I could.

I had a wonderful surprise from some pretty amazing people today. Jacqueline and Travis Simpson came by once I reached my destination and brought me 10 more body armors, some fruit, ice, water, a couple frog toggs, and some snacks. I can’t thank you enough for sacrificing your time and money to help me out. It truly means a lot! We always had a good chat while they were here and we got to exchange some stories and it wasn’t just a good time. I wish you all the best and thank you again!

I also want to give  a huge shout out to Tim Taylor and his son Michael Taylor who found a place for me to set up and sleep tonight. They also came and interviewed me for the local paper. They were an absolutely pleasure to talk to. Tim has traveled the world and been to some of the same places as me as well as some I’ve never been to. It was fun sharing some experiences.

Tomorrow I’ll be heading up towards Princeton. It should be a good 30-31 mile day. 🏃🏻‍♂️
If someone could send me some clouds or a little shade I would forever be in your debt!

Im getting more excited as every day passes to get to fly down to Peru. In just about 2 weeks I’ll be gone!

For anyone interested, I’ll be live on Fox10 in Phoenix Arizona on Monday May 27th at 1040 eastern time. I’ll be doing a live phone interview while the show is going.

For my friends and family:

The U.S. Military is us. There is no truer representation of a country than the people that it sends into the field to fight for it. The people who wear our uniform and carry our rifles into combat are our kids, and our job is to support them, because they're protecting us. And when they come home and take off that uniform and become veterans. That support shouldn’t stop. We should stand strong by them because they gave so much for us.
